PATRICK DEVAHASTIN
EDUCATION
HIROSHIMA UNIVERSITY (OCT 2020 - PRESENT)
I arrived in Japan during the height of the pandemic in 2020 as a MEXT Scholarship student. Under the supervision of my supervisor, Prof. Yoshihiko Kadoya, I published eight papers during my first two years.

WARWICK UNIVERSITY (SEP 2017 - 2018)
I began my MSc without knowing much about the application of experimental economics. Thanks to my labour economics lecture and my later dissertation supervisor, Prof. Roland Rathelot. I utilised correspondence studies to study discrimination in the labour market in Thailand for my dissertation.

THAMMASAT UNIVERSITY (AUG 2013 - MAY 2017)
Prior to joining Thammasat, I dreamed of becoming a diplomat for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. My diplomat cousin then convinced me to study Economics since MFA seemed to need a lot of economists at the time. Hence, I decided to join the economics programme at Thammasat. Unexpectedly, I began to fall in love with economics and its application, which made me do another degree at Warwick.

UCLA (OCT - DEC 2016)
I visited UCLA as an exchange student during my final undergrad year. In LA, I took courses in American economic history and international economics. I also truly experienced American democracy by witnessing the 2016 Presidential Election. The experience made me more interested in political and social issues worldwide.

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND (JAN - MAY 2016)
Studying at Richmond was a turning point for me to pursue another degree in economics. When I visited there as an exchange student during my third undergrad year, I happened to take a labour economics course, which Prof. KimMarie McGoldrick organised. Professor M was one of the most extraordinary lecturers that I have ever met. Her lectures were so captivating that I never wanted them to end. Even though her grading was tough (she gave me "B-"), she motivated me to study labour economics during my postgrad year at Warwick.
